Nobody on this page pays us. Amazon doesn’t sell Canva Pro, so there’s no affiliate link here, and Adobe and Affinity pay us nothing either. See our methodology.
Canva’s pricing page lists Canva Pro at $144 a year, or $18 a month, for one person, before tax. Paid monthly, that’s $216 a year. Canva Free costs nothing and is the plan most people should compare it with, not Adobe.
The question that decides it: do you hit a specific Free limit often enough to pay $12 a month to remove it? Premium templates, background removal, resizing a design into other formats and extra brand kits are the main things Pro adds. If you can’t name the limit, you don’t need Pro yet.
What each Canva plan costs over a year
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | Monthly, over 12 months | Who can use it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | $0 | One person |
| Pro | $144 | $18 | $216 | One person |
| Business | $250 per person | $25 per person | $300 per person | Individuals and teams |
| AI Pass add-on | — | $100 per person | $1,200 per person | Pro or Business only |
Canva’s prices exclude tax, which it adds at checkout based on your billing address.
One price conflict to know about. When we checked Canva’s pricing page on 4 September 2026 for our Adobe Creative Cloud analysis, it showed Pro at $180 a year. On 17 October it showed $144, with no “sale” or “first year” label anywhere on the page. We can’t tell from Canva’s pages whether that’s a permanent cut or an unlabelled offer, so confirm the figure on the checkout screen before you pay.
What Pro adds over Free
These are the differences Canva’s own comparison listed on 17 October 2026:
| Feature | Free | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Templates | 1.6M+ | 3.6M+, including premium |
| Photos, videos, graphics, audio | 4.7M+ | 141M+ premium |
| Brand Kits | 1 (3 colours only) | 5 |
| Cloud storage | 5GB | 100GB |
| AI usage | Up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses | 10x Free’s allowance |
| AI tools such as resize, translate and background removal | Not listed | Included |
| Social content scheduling | Not listed | Included |
| Affinity | Access | Access, with AI |
Free still covers a lot: the drag-and-drop editor, over 1,000 design types, custom dimensions, offline designs, and the 1.6 million templates. For a birthday invitation or a one-off flyer, Free is the whole product.
Pro earns its money on repetition. If you make the same kind of graphic every week, the premium template library, brand colours stored in a kit and resizing a design into other formats remove the steps you repeat. If you make something every couple of months, those steps don’t add up to much.
The calculation: what Pro has to save you
Treat Pro as buying time back. At the annual price:
$144 ÷ your hourly rate = hours a year Pro must save you
At $25 an hour, that’s 5.8 hours a year, or about 29 minutes a month. At $50 an hour, it’s 2.9 hours a year.
For someone posting to social media for a small business several times a week, 29 minutes a month is a low bar. For someone who opens Canva four times a year, it’s nearly impossible to clear. We can’t tell you how many minutes Pro saves you; we analyse the published pricing, not the editor. Estimate your own number honestly, then compare it with the figure above.
Annual or monthly: the eight-month rule
The annual plan works out at $12 a month, a third less than the $18 monthly price. But it only saves money if you’d keep Pro for most of the year.
$144 ÷ $18 = 8 months
If you need Pro for fewer than eight months, paying monthly and cancelling is cheaper.
| How you use it | Calculation | Year |
|---|---|---|
| Pro all year, billed annually | $144 | $144 |
| Pro all year, billed monthly | 12 × $18 | $216 |
| Pro for 3 busy months, then Free | 3 × $18 | $54 |
| Pro for 6 months, then Free | 6 × $18 | $108 |
A seasonal seller, a wedding, or a three-month product launch costs $54 on monthly billing against $144 for a year you won’t use. Our guide to annual versus monthly billing explains the general version of this trade-off. The risk with monthly is forgetting to cancel when the busy months end.
The free trial, and what it doesn’t show you
Canva offers a free trial of Pro, though its pricing page didn’t state the length when we checked. There’s one catch in Canva’s own FAQ: the AI allowance during the trial is the same as Canva Free. Pro’s full allowance, ten times Free’s, starts only when you pay.
So the trial gives you the templates, stock library and tools to judge, but not the AI volume. If heavy AI generation is your reason for buying, the trial won’t tell you whether Pro’s allowance is enough. The AI Pass help page also says you can’t add AI Pass during a free trial. Our guide to free trials covers how to make sure a trial doesn’t roll into a charge you didn’t plan.
The AI Pass is a separate, much bigger purchase
Canva’s AI Pass is an add-on for Pro and Business, and Canva’s help centre prices it at $100 per person per month. That’s $1,200 a year on top of the plan, which makes Pro plus AI Pass $1,344 a year on annual billing. Canva says it gives Pro subscribers 40 times more AI. It isn’t available on app-store subscriptions or during a trial.
That’s a professional tool priced like one, and a different question from whether Pro is worth $144.
Pro or Business when there are two of you
Canva’s FAQ is explicit: only one person can use a Canva Pro account. Canva Teams, the old shared plan, is closed to new sign-ups. So two people who both need premium features have two choices:
| Option | Calculation | Year |
|---|---|---|
| Two Pro accounts, annual | 2 × $144 | $288 |
| Business, 2 people, annual | 2 × $250 | $500 |
Business costs $212 a year more for two. It adds a shared workspace, approvals, 100 Brand Kits, 500GB of storage and twice Pro’s AI allowance (20 times Free’s, against Pro’s 10). Pay that only if you need the shared brand controls. Two people who just need premium templates are better off with two Pro accounts and sharing designs.
Nonprofits can apply for Canva’s premium features free, according to its pricing page, and K-12 schools have a free education plan. Check those before paying for either.
The cheaper alternatives
- Adobe Express Premium is $9.99 a month, billed monthly with no annual commitment, according to Adobe’s pricing page. That’s $119.88 a year, which is $24.12 less than Canva Pro annual and $96.12 less than Canva Pro monthly. It includes 250 generative AI credits a month and a 30-day free trial. Adobe’s page says it includes the full Adobe Fonts collection.
- Affinity is free for individuals, according to its own site, and covers vector, photo and layout work in one app. Canva owns it, and Canva Free includes access. It’s a heavier tool than Canva, so it suits people who want Photoshop-style control rather than templates. Pro adds Affinity’s AI features, not the app itself.
- Canva Free remains the cheapest option, and many readers who think they need Pro are only missing one feature.
The verdict
Canva Pro is worth it if you make graphics most weeks: a small business doing its own social media, a freelancer producing client assets, or a creator posting several times a week. At $144 a year, it needs to save you about half an hour a month at $25 an hour. Weekly design work is where that’s realistic. Pay annually if you’ll use it for eight months or more.
Pay monthly instead if your design work is seasonal. Three busy months cost $54 on monthly billing, not $144.
Don’t buy Pro if you design something a few times a year. Free includes the editor, 1.6 million templates and offline designs, and nothing in the comparison changes that for occasional use. Don’t buy Business for two people who only want premium templates. Two Pro accounts are $212 a year cheaper. And don’t buy AI Pass to see what it’s like. At $1,200 a year, it’s for people who already know they’re running out of AI allowance every month.
