BritBox costs $10.99 a month or $109.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial on both, read from BritBox’s own plan panel on 12 October 2026. A third plan, Premier, is $149.99 a year and is billed immediately, with no trial.
The question that decides it is narrow: do you watch British television often enough, across enough of the year, to justify a service that sells nothing else? BritBox describes its catalogue as “thousands of hours of blissfully ad-free British TV”, and that is the whole product. There is no general library to fall back on when you’ve finished the thing you came for.
The three plans side by side
| Plan | Price | Per month | Free trial | Ads |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $10.99 | $10.99 | 7 days | None |
| Annual | $109.99 | $9.17 | 7 days | None |
| Premier (annual) | $149.99 | $12.50 | None, billed immediately | None |
All three are ad-free. BritBox says every plan includes the full catalogue. Premier adds “early viewing” of featured titles and what BritBox calls BBC Select, a set of extra documentaries. The monthly and annual plans are the “Standard” plan on BritBox’s page.
The annual plan: ten months to break even
BritBox pitches the annual plan as “12 months for the price of 10”. Check it:
$10.99 × 12 = $131.88 paying monthly.
The annual plan is $109.99.
That’s $21.89 saved, a 16.6% discount.
The useful way to divide it: $109.99 ÷ $10.99 = 10.0 months. If you’d keep BritBox for fewer than ten of the next twelve months, the annual plan costs you money. This is the standard “two months free” structure we pick apart in annual vs monthly billing, and it suits some services much better than a single-purpose one.
British drama is bingeable and tends to arrive in short series. Many viewers finish a show and drift away, which is the pattern where annual pricing hurts:
| How you watch | Monthly | Annual |
|---|---|---|
| One month, one big series | $10.99 | $109.99 |
| Three months across the year | $32.97 | $109.99 |
| Six months | $65.94 | $109.99 |
| Nine months | $98.91 | $109.99 |
| Ten months or more | $109.90+ | $109.99 |
A one-month viewer pays ten times as much on the annual plan. Count the months you actually opened BritBox, or a similar service, last year, not the months you meant to, and read off the row.
A better trick for the monthly plan: the 7-day free trial plus one paid month gives you roughly five weeks for $10.99. Binge a series you’ve been saving, then cancel before the renewal date. Put that date in your calendar the day you sign up, because a trial you forget is how you end up on the list in how to cancel subscriptions you forgot about.
What Premier costs, and what it buys
Premier is $40.00 more a year than the standard annual plan ($149.99 minus $109.99), or $3.33 a month. For that, BritBox lists two things: featured titles early, and the BBC Select documentaries, which it values at “$69.99”. That figure is BritBox’s own marketing number, and the page footnote says it refers to the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. We haven’t verified it and wouldn’t treat it as a discount. A comparison only works if you’d have bought those documentaries separately, and most people wouldn’t.
Run the honest test instead. Premier is worth the extra $40 only if you’d actually use early access to new releases and you watch factual programming in the BBC Select set. If you can’t name a documentary you’d watch, the $40 is paying for a label. Premier is also billed immediately, so you lose the 7-day trial as a free look.
Subscribing through Amazon instead
BritBox is carried as a Prime Video Channel, which we confirmed on Amazon’s own site on 12 October 2026. We did not read the price there and won’t quote one we haven’t seen on Amazon’s page, so check what it shows before you commit.
Two structural points hold either way. Channels needs an active Prime membership, so a non-member is paying for Prime to reach it. And Channels, as far as we’ve been able to determine, is a monthly arrangement, which would mean the $109.99 annual plan and Premier aren’t available that way. We haven’t confirmed that for BritBox specifically, so treat it as a question to check at signup rather than a fact.
What Channels does give you is one bill and one cancel button alongside everything else Amazon charges you for. For a one-month binge that is a fair trade; for a year-round habit, subscribing direct and taking the annual plan is the cheaper route. We lay out the general maths in Channels vs subscribing direct, and see the Prime Video Channels worth paying for for how it compares across services.
Before you pay, check your must-watch list
We haven’t reviewed BritBox’s catalogue title by title, and catalogues change. That makes the single most useful step free: open the BritBox app or website during the trial and search for the five British shows you most want to watch. If three or more are there, the service has earned a month. If one is, you’re paying $10.99 to watch one show.
Also compare against how you watch now. A niche service is only worth a standing subscription if it replaces time you’d otherwise spend on a bigger one. The same reasoning is in our look at Shudder, another single-genre service whose annual plan only wins for heavy users.
The verdict
Don’t buy the annual plan if you watch in bursts. It takes ten months to break even. If you finish one series and disappear, you’ve paid $109.99 for something $10.99 would have covered.
Don’t buy Premier unless you can name what it adds for you. It’s $40 a year more for early viewing and a documentary set. If neither is a reason you’d open the app, skip it.
Skip BritBox entirely if you watch British TV once or twice a year, or if the shows you want aren’t in the catalogue when you search during the trial. At $131.88 a year on the monthly plan, a service you visit twice is the pattern this site exists to break.
The monthly plan is worth it if you have a specific series (or two) queued and you’re disciplined about cancelling. One trial week plus one month, for $10.99, is the cheapest correct answer on this page.
The annual plan is worth it if British drama is a regular habit and you’d keep the service for ten months or more. Then $109.99, or $9.17 a month, is a genuine 16.6% saving.
Verified 12 October 2026. BritBox’s $10.99 monthly, $109.99 annual and $149.99 Premier prices, the 7-day free trial on the standard plans, and Premier’s immediate billing were read from britbox.com/us on that date. The “$69.99” BBC Select value is BritBox’s own marketing figure, not verified. BritBox’s availability on Prime Video Channels was checked on amazon.com the same day; its price there is unconfirmed. Promotional rates change; confirm every number at signup.
