Is Google AI Plus Worth It in 2026? Two Plans, Priced

Nobody on this page pays us. Google, OpenAI and Anthropic don’t sell these plans through Amazon, so every link below is a plain link that earns nothing. See our methodology.

Google AI Plus costs $4.99 a month on Google’s Gemini subscriptions page. That’s $59.88 a year, and it comes with 400GB of storage for Gmail, Drive and Photos.

That makes it the cheapest paid AI plan from any of the big three companies, and also a storage plan. The question that decides it: do you need more than 15GB of Google storage? If you do, most of the $4.99 is paying for storage you’d buy anyway, and the AI comes cheap. If you don’t, you’re paying $59.88 a year for a mid-tier assistant that Google’s own page says runs on its Flash model, not its best one.

There’s a complication first.

Google sells two plans called “Google AI Plus”

Google’s two pricing pages don’t list the same plan. On 28 October 2026:

  • The Gemini subscriptions page lists Google AI Plus at $4.99 a month with 400GB. It shows no annual price.
  • Google One’s plans page lists “Google AI Plus (2 TB)” at $9.99 a month, or $99.99 a year. The $4.99 plan isn’t on that page at all.

The AI features the two pages list match: Gemini app access with double the free usage limits, the Flash model, Google Flow, Gemini in Gmail and more Gemini Notebook access. The difference on the page is storage and price. We couldn’t find a Google page that sets the two side by side or says whether the $4.99 plan can be billed annually, so treat the $4.99 plan as monthly-only until you see otherwise at checkout.

When we read Google’s pricing in August, AI Plus was listed at $7.99, so this price has moved once already this year.

Every Google plan, priced over a year

Plan Storage Monthly Year (monthly billing) Year (annual billing)
Free 15GB $0 $0 —
Google One Basic 100GB $1.99 $23.88 $19.99
Google AI Plus 400GB $4.99 $59.88 not listed
Google AI Plus (2 TB) 2TB $9.99 $119.88 $99.99
Google AI Pro 5TB $19.99 $239.88 $199.99

Basic has no AI features. Annual prices are from Google One’s page; the 400GB plan’s monthly price is from the Gemini page. Google One’s page says its paid tiers can be shared with up to five other people; the Gemini page doesn’t say whether the 400GB plan can be.

The calculation: what the AI actually costs you

Start with what you pay Google now, then subtract it from what you’d pay on AI Plus. The difference is the real price of the assistant.

$59.88 − what you pay Google for storage today = the yearly cost of the AI

  • You’re on the free 15GB: the AI costs $59.88 a year, because there’s nothing to subtract.
  • You pay for Basic annually ($19.99): the AI plus 300GB more storage costs $39.89 a year, about $3.32 a month.
  • You pay for Basic monthly ($23.88 a year): the extra is $36.00 a year, exactly $3 a month.
  • You pay for 2TB at $99.99 a year: you already have AI Plus. Google One’s page now sells its 2TB tier under that name, so you’re paying for the AI whether you use it or not.

Compare those numbers with the next-cheapest assistant. ChatGPT Go is $8 a month, $96 a year, and OpenAI’s FAQ says it bills monthly only. For a Basic subscriber, adding AI through Google costs $56 to $60 a year less than adding Go, and you get the storage bump on top. We compared Go against ChatGPT Plus in ChatGPT Go vs Plus.

Storage per terabyte: when the 2TB plan wins

The $4.99 plan is good value for the AI and poor value per gigabyte:

  • 400GB at $59.88 a year is $149.70 per terabyte per year.
  • 2TB at $99.99 a year is $50.00 per terabyte per year.

So the cut-off is about how much you store, not about AI. Check your Google storage figure in Drive or the Google One app:

  • Under 100GB and you don’t want AI: Basic at $19.99 a year is the cheapest paid plan.
  • Between 100GB and 400GB: the $4.99 plan is the cheapest Google plan that fits you, and the AI is included.
  • Over 400GB: go to 2TB at $99.99 a year. It’s $40.11 more than a year of the $4.99 plan for five times the space, and it still includes AI Plus.

Our Google One vs iCloud+ vs Dropbox comparison covers the 2TB tier against Apple and Dropbox.

What $4.99 doesn’t get you

Google’s Gemini page is specific about where AI Plus stops:

  • The Flash model only. Google lists AI Plus with “Access to our Flash model”. Google AI Pro gets the Pro model and Gemini 4 Argon. Free gets Flash-Lite.
  • Double the free usage, not unlimited. AI Plus has “2x higher usage limits” than Free. AI Pro has 4x. Google’s footnote says limits reset every five hours up to a weekly cap, and that you can buy extra AI credits past that. Budget for neither, but know the second exists.
  • No YouTube Premium Lite or Google Home Premium. Those come with AI Pro.

Google AI Pro is $199.99 a year billed annually through Google One, which is $140.11 more than AI Plus. It’s priced level with Claude Pro at $200 a year billed annually, or $20 monthly. Whether a flagship model is worth that much more is the subject of our AI subscription comparison. This page is about the cheap tier.

The catch when you cancel

Cancelling an AI plan normally just switches the assistant off. Cancelling this one also takes away storage.

Google’s help centre lists what happens when your files exceed your storage: you can’t upload to Drive, Photos stops backing up, and Gmail’s ability to send and receive email “can be impacted”. If you stay over the limit for two years, Google says your content may be removed, after at least three months’ notice.

So if you use 300GB of the 400GB, cancelling isn’t a choice between $4.99 and nothing. It’s a choice between $4.99 and $1.99 for Basic, plus deleting 200GB first. That’s the same lock-in every storage plan has, but here it comes attached to an AI subscription, which people tend to treat as easy to drop. Know that before you fill the extra space.

If you’re choosing between monthly and annual billing on the 2TB or Pro tiers, our annual vs monthly guide explains when locking in the 16% discount makes sense.

The verdict

Buy Google AI Plus at $4.99 if you store between 100GB and 400GB with Google and want an AI assistant for everyday writing, summarising and questions. The AI costs you about $3 a month on top of storage you’d otherwise pay $1.99 for, which is less than half the price of ChatGPT Go.

Pick the 2TB version at $99.99 a year if you store more than 400GB. You get the same AI features for $40.11 a year more and five times the storage.

Don’t buy it if you use under 15GB and open Gemini a few times a week. Gemini’s free tier already includes Deep Research, Gemini Live and image generation on Google’s page. You’d be paying $59.88 a year for higher limits you may never hit.

Don’t buy it if what you want is the strongest model. AI Plus runs on Flash, and paying $59.88 a year to stay a tier below the flagship makes sense only if you mostly need the storage. If you need Google’s best model, the question is AI Pro at $199.99, not AI Plus.

And don’t add it to another $20 AI plan you already pay for. Two assistants cost $259.88 to $299.88 a year for overlap.
